Beovox RL 60

(1985-1986)

Type number: 6503

Description

The Beovox RL 60 was a more expensive and better performing alternative to the Beovox RL 45. Although no larger in frontal aspect, the cabinet was slightly deeper and constructed differently. The most obvious indication of this was that the part of the cabinet where the “red line” was had more space around it, enough in fact for a DIN type loudspeaker socket to be fitted in one corner. This socket could be used so that the loudspeaker could be easily disconnected and moved around, though the conventional terminal clips in a recess at the rear were retained too. The deeper cabinet allowed better drive units to be used. In this case, a pair of long-throw woofers and a dome tweeter were fitted. Though both woofers (each slightly smaller in diameter than the single unit fitted to the RL 45) were the same, they were connected to different points in the crossover and so reproduced a slightly different part of the overall audio spectrum. To complete the system, an Auxiliary Bass Radiator (ABR), just like the one in the RL 45, allowed for extended bass response. Text copyright © Beocentral. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.

The RL 60 was replaced by the RL 60.2, which looked the same but had a tuned bass port instead of the ABR. Text copyright © Beocentral. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.
