Ambio Control Unit

Description

An accessory that allowed “ambiophonic stereo” sound from any Beomaster or Beocenter. The unit, a small aluminium box, had two short flying leads, terminated in special DIN loudspeaker plugs made by German headphone specialist Sennheiser. These had sockets at their rear, into which the “front” pair of loudspeakers were connected, then the “plug” end was connected to the loudspeaker sockets of the amplifier. The second pair of loudspeakers were then connected to a pair of sockets on the ambio control unit itself. A sliding switch then gave a choice of “off” (normal stereo), “ambio” and “filter”, the latter introduced a high pass filter to reduce the bass response of the rear loudspeakers. The ambio control unit remained available for a number of years, but was withdrawn at about the same time as the Beomaster 4400, the last receiver to be fitted with built in ambiophonic circuitry. Text copyright © Beocentral. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.
