Beocord VHS 62
(1985) VHS video recorder

Description
This early VHS recorder was based on the Philips VR6560. Very few alterations were made other than some slight changes in styling, colours and graphics and the re-programming of the remote control system so that it worked correctly with the Beovision Video Terminal remote control. This machine, along with the Philips model on which it was closely based, was derived from the final Philips Video 2000 (V2000) recorders. These machines also featured in the B&O range, most notably as the VCR 60. Almost identical styling and functionality were carried over, something that was made comparatively easy as the V2000 and VHS cassettes are very similar in size. This necessitated the inclusion of an automatic tracking control, a standard part of the V2000 system but a novelty for a VHS recorder at the time. Text copyright © Beocentral. Although nominally a top loader, the Beocord VHS 62 featured fully powered loading. It was not necessary to push the cassette cover down to load the tape, instead it would lower automatically as soon as the first instruction was received. A safety switch reversed this process if the cassette was not fully loaded or another object (fingers etc) became trapped. Text copyright © Beocentral. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.
This model was not widely distributed and did not prove very popular. It was replaced by the far more successful Beocord VHS 63, which although very different in appearance shared very similar mechanicals and electronics. Text copyright © Beocentral. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.
