Beogram 3000

(1972-1975) Stereo turntable, 33/45RPM, SP 10A pickup, optional GF4 pre-amplifier

Description

A high quality turntable for use with receivers like the Beomaster 3000. The styling was similar to the Beogram 1200, and they shared the same arm and motor. Beogram 3000 achieved a higher level of quality though, and this was mainly due to its improved acoustic isolation. The floating subchassis was loaded with a large diecast block whose considerable mass, in combination with the springs and dampers that supported it, stopped vibrations reaching the platter and pickup. The arm the same as that fitted to Beogram 1800, so the SP 10A pickup could be used. A platter with a non-slip rubberised covering was fitted, a new development that would continue to appear on Beograms until the end. The covering was so thin that it was barely noticeable, and looked sleeker than the thick rubber mat of the Beogram 1800, but offered better support and drive, especially with warped records, than the raised pegs of Beogram 1200. In common with the 1200 and 1800, the GF4 preamplifier could be fitted, and this was very easy, as it did not require the Beogram to be dismantled, or any wired connections to be made. Removal was just as easy. Use of the GF4 allowed two Beogram 3000s to be connected to one Beomaster 3000. Text copyright © Beocentral. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.

The lid of the Beogram 3000 was also of novel construction. The aluminium box section at the back contained a torsion spring, which while being small and unobtrusive, was strong enough to hold the lid in a variety of positions. Again this technique was used on many subsequent Beogram and Beocenter models. The lid could also be easily removed, without the use of tools. Text copyright © Beocentral. The Beogram 3000 mechanism was used as the basis for the turntable of Beocenter 3500. In this form it remained available for many years, and was the last turntable offered by B&O to use the SP type pickup. Text copyright © Beocentral. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.
