Description

The ultimate 7000 series music centre. Launched alongside Beocenter 7007, it shared the latter’s styling updates, but went further, with an aluminium cover over the turntable, opened with a pushbutton and incorporating an automatic light, which matched the cover over the tape and programming sections. This made the range-topping Beocenter look very sleek, and clearly different from the other models. Text copyright © Beocentral. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.

All the technical improvements from the 7007 were also included, and were in some cases improved, an example being the standard fitting of an MMC 3 pickup. The big news however was the two-way remote control system, based around an infra red transceiver in the Beocenter and a new type of terminal, the Master Control Panel. The Master Control Panel 7700 featured three LCD display panels, the data on which was sent from the Beocenter 7700 via and infra red link. This may seem like a gimmick, but in the context of multiroom operation it proved invaluable. It became possible for the first time to tell from a distant room what radio station was selected, or exactly what the cassette recorder was doing. The system also worked in the same room as the Beocenter, though the large LED readouts on the Beocenter front panel meant that a simpler terminal could be used, the Beocenter Terminal from the 7007 being suitable and available as an accessory. Choice of loudspeakers was left to the owner, but Beovox S 80.2 was suggested, with the new ‘C’ range of compact models possibly for a second room. Later on, the standard pickup was changed to the MMC 4, and the SC 77 cabinet became available. Throughout the life of the 7000 series, the potential customer was urged “not to mistake them for ordinary music centres”. The Beocenter 7700 reinforced this point beyond any doubt.
