Description

The Beovision 5500 was technically identical to the Beovision 8800 with the exception that a smaller 20” picture tube and smaller loudspeakers were fitted. The styling of the larger models had been perfectly scaled so that the Beovision 5500 was a very compact and attractive package. Along with the 33XX chassis, the 30AX colour tube system was retained. The 20” version of this tube was unique to B&O in the UK, other manufacturers such as Thorn and Philips preferred to use cheaper (but bulkier) 90 degree tubes for their 20” models. Options such as teletext and an AV interface (DIN AV standard) could be specified, making the Beovision 5500 a fully-featured top performer, unmatched by any other 20” set of the period.
