BeoVision 6-26

(2004-2006) 26” widescreen LCD television

Description

In terms of the makeup of the B&O range of the day, the BeoVision 6-26 was seen simply as a slightly larger version of the original BeoVision 6 (which would later be renamed to BeoVision 6-22). This is the way that the BeoVision range had traditionally been composed: with “families” of models available in a number of screen sizes. Text copyright © Beocentral. In detail the BeoVision 6-26 was quite different from the original 22” model. Most obvious to the viewer were the additional tweeter loudspeakers (something which the original BeoVision 6 lacked). The more inquisitive may also notice a better-stocked socket panel, but otherwise the two sets were externally very similar. Internally however things could not have been more different. The screen unit for the 26” model had been sourced from Sharp in Japan rather than from Samsung in Korea. The different requirements of this screen required the re-design of many of the circuit panels, the power unit in particular. The high power consumption of this model required that a cooling fan be fitted, this was located at the top centre of the cabinet and ran slowly and quietly to avoid annoying the viewer. The high power consumption of sets of this design seems at odds with the political and cultural changes that were taking place at the time and the moves towards energy conservation and the reduction of atmospheric pollution. The BeoVision 6-26 used considerably more power than the 26” Beovision 4402 of nearly thirty years previously. It also produced a smaller, darker and less distinct picture; so much for progress!

The BeoVision 6-26 fitted into the range in a place that had previously been occupied by models such as the MX 6000. It could be used as a stand-alone TV set or as part of a larger B&O system with equal ease. A choice of stands and brackets were offered to allow for flexible placement. Text copyright © Beocentral.
